What is WBP Plywood?

WBP plywood is a type of exterior grade plywood made of thin layers of veneers either softwood or hardwood. The WBP stands for weather and boil proof, the sheets are compliant with EN 636-2 standard, this ensures that the added phenol-formaldehyde glue line will not break when exposed to adverse weather conditions and is capable of withstanding immersion in boiling water. The exterior plywood is resistant to shrinking and expanding, thanks to the method of production where the veneers are bonded together with the grains against each other making them exceptionally durable. 

What is WBP Plywood used for?

WBP plywood is typically used for exterior sheathing or subflooring. Compared with the normal exterior grade plywood, the WBP type can withstand considerably adverse weather conditions. When used as a subflooring in areas where the floor will be subjected to moisture ingress the WBP plywood acts as an added benefit, providing that extra protection. WBP is sometimes confused with Marine plywood, in fact, they are the same type of plywood, however, the Marine one offers a more superior and knotless finish. Whereas the WBP might have some imperfections.
